Comment on Labor Day:
"I wanted to focus your attention on today’s holiday and what is behind it – the value of work and the power of workers. As teachers we often find ourselves straddling the line between being members of a professional organization (like the AMA) and a union (like the AFL-CIO). Setting that aside for now, I’ll say I believe this holiday is a great day to consider the value of organized labor and consider the working world that existed before the advent of organized labor. We, through our negotiated Agreement with District 51, have rights and protections that would stagger most teachers during the history of education in our culture. We should celebrate those rights and protections and work hard to preserve them. I plan to keep doing so as long as I hold this office."
